The Treasury’s revised plans for the GSE wind-down prompted a number of customer questions on Friday, a couple of which we answer in this week’s newsletter.  Also, this week’s MMO includes a quarterly update on the amount of cash held in transactions accounts eligible for unlimited FDIC insurance under the terms of the Dodd Frank Act.  The aggregate amount of Dodd Frank balances grew very little in the second quarter, but remains large enough to have a significant impact on bill and repo rates if the eventual expiration of the unlimited coverage leads to large deposit outflows. more »

Economic Indicators

This week’s economic calendar is very light.  Today’s schedule is limited to the Chicago Fed’s national tracking index at 8:30.  The highlights for the rest of the week include existing home sales on Wednesday, the Markit purchasing managers index on Thursday and durable goods on Friday.  The general tone of the data is likely to be consistent with sluggish but positive growth. more »

Treasury Finance

In addition to the regular weekly bills, this week’s calendar includes a year-bill auction tomorrow and a 5-year TIPS reopening on Thursday.  The terms of the month-end nominal notes will also be announced on Thursday, with the auctions slated to run from next Tuesday through Thursday. more »
