The market risks in this morning’s employment report are one-sided, as traders are much more likely to respond to signs of strength than to signs of weakness.  Given last month’s weather conditions, the market would be more inclined to make excuses for shortfalls in the data than for upside surprises. more »

Fed Data Nothing in last night’s balance sheet data from the Fed explained the tightening in the funds rate so far this week.  The upward shift in the trading range for fed funds reflects higher financing costs in the repo market.  Also, last night’s data showed that banks have repaid very little of their discount window borrowing since the discount rate was hiked last month. more »
